A new space dedicated to the atmospheric, mesmerizing, and rave-inspired shades of trance music.
Beatport has added a brand new genre category to the store: Trance (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic).
The history and sound of trance are rich, spanning various eras and regions, reaching millions of people along its journey. While often overshadowed by the more main-floor side of its fandom, the lush, profound, and fast-paced-rave forms of the genre are now experiencing a renaissance in underground circles across the globe.
It’s for this reason that Beatport has decided to split the Trance genre category into two standalone genre pages — Trance (Main Floor) and Trance (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) — giving artists a better-dedicated space to showcase their sound and connect with their target audience.
Led by prominent figureheads like John 00 Fleming, KI/KI, Basil O’Glue, Maruwa, and Blue Hour, Trance (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) celebrates the diverse Trance underground and its many distinguished labels. By creating these two distinct pages, Beatport allows both burgeoning styles of the genre to flourish in their respective spaces, while offering a better customer experience to those searching for Trance subgenres.
Speaking about the genre addition, Greek Trance artist Basil O’Glue added: “Trance genre has been dominated by uplifting and vocal tracks for the last few years. That’s not a bad thing but, deep, underground, hypnotic tracks, are very hard to find. I think the new genre will help DJs explore the deeper side of trance but also encourage producers to experiment with new sounds and follow their visions without boundaries.”
JOOF Recordings boss and Trance music veteran John 00 Fleming added: “It was only a matter of time before Trance gained another genre page on Beatport to focus on the underground side. With the introduction of this dedicated world, Trance can now flourish and breathe, allowing artists to be discovered and evolve.”

Along this transition, the current Trance (Main Floor) will consist of five sub-genres, including Vocal Trance, Uplifting Trance, Tech-Trance, Progressive Trance, and Hard Trance.
