With a diverse array of collaborations and influences, this is arguably Break’s most important body of work to date.
Drum ‘n’ bass continues to create wave after wave of furious energy and the new album from Break continues that UK pressure. One of the most prolific producers in d n b with over two decades of experience on the scene, Digital World will mark Break’s fifth solo album amongst a stack of big anthems over the years. Initially discovering his love for breakbeat playing jazz and funk records whilst developing his percussive sense by playing the drums aged 14, the DJ/producer has transformed into one of jungle’s finest tastemakers to date.
Dropping during Break’s four-week club residency at the Shoreditch, London venue XOYO, Digital World is a brilliant 12-track album featuring various artists, including MC Fats (RIP), Liam Bailey and SP MC. Break previously teased the bigger project with singles last year, Natural Way ft. the late MC Fats and the equally incisive Code Red ft. Fox. As is always the way, the album is a real labour of love and opening track “Gunshot Love” is a smash.
Released on Symmetry Recordings, Break’s label is now home to an impressive roster of names since it launched back in 2006, with over 15 years of releases from the likes of Calibre, Calyx & Teebee, DJ Die, SpectraSoul and Break himself. Speaking about the new LP’s musical vision, Break said: “‘Got Soul in a Digital World’ – was vocalist DeRobert’s line from the track I sampled for the title tune of this album. I can really relate to this sentiment and it sums up the whole ethos behind my album. The aim musically was to create a collection of stand-alone songs which also do damage on the dance floor. I was blessed to have this group of amazing vocalists to make that vision a reality.” Listen to the full album below.
