The incomparable Purple Disco Machine collaborates with French superproducer Kungs for this brand-new disco jam.
The time is now. Hot on the heels of a string of Beatport-trouncing releases like “Bodyfunk”, Purple Disco Machine has now hooked up with the ever-rising French super-producer Kungs. The two artist’s personal relationship flourished when they met at several festivals across the globe, with “Substitution” embodying that sizzling collaborative disco energy. The song itself gives a nod to the disco-soaked eighties since it samples the iconic 1984 hit ‘Big in Japan’ from anthemic synth-pop act Alphaville, the German synth-pop band formed in Münster in 1982.
Neither of these acts are any stranger to success. So ingrained in his identity, Tino Piontek’s artist name Purple Disco Machine is a deliberate homage to his funk hero Prince and the spirit of Gloria Estefan’s Miami Sound Machine and his Beatport hits have included ‘Dished (Male Stripper)’, ‘Playbox’, and ‘Devil In Me feat Duane Harden & Joe Killington’. A Grammy Award winner with a remix of Lizzo’s ‘ About Damn Time’, Purple Disco Machine has had huge success with multiple high-profile remixes for the likes of Dua Lipa, Mark Ronson, Fatboy Slim, Tensnake and Lady Gaga. Kungs, meanwhile, whose real name is Valentin Brunel, burst onto the European dance scene with the unavoidable global electronic hit “This Girl” and the accompanying 2022 VA album release “Club Azur’”.
Purple Disco Machine and Kung’s new single “Substitution” is out now via Columbia. Buy it on Beatport.
