An acclaimed DJ and producer who resided in Spain recently until his sudden and shocking departure yesterday, Mighty Mouse.
In shocking news for the dance community, Mighty Mouse has died suddenly in his villa in Spain from an aortic aneurysm aged just 48. The beloved disco DJ and producer was very much a part of the Defected and Glitterbox family, who were the first to break the news online last night.
In fact, the legendary producer’s contemporary crew had much to say. “We are devastated to confirm that Matthew Ward, aka Mighty Mouse, died suddenly last Thursday at his home in Spain,” it reads. “We are all lost without his enormous presence and talent, our thoughts are with his partner, Ellen, and his Mum, Judy, as well as his wider family and many, many friends and fans.” Simon Dunmore, former owner and label head of the label, also paid tribute. ‘Sending love and condolences to Matthew’s family and friends, RIP Mighty Mouse.”
Additional tributes have appeared from across the electronic spectrum, with fans remembering his productions and remixes of ABBA and artists from Rowetta to DJs like Friend Within remembering his music and spirit. He’d recently delivered a remix for Ridney and Inaya Day before he passed; that remix is available to stream and purchase on Beatport here.
