The striking and cinematic lockdown collaboration is out now via Circus Recordings.
Following up a handful of noteworthy releases from Circus Recordings boss Yousef this year, including his mischievous Mix Trax single “Wig,” his DFTD debut “Hear That Sound,” and his tenacious “Wildside” collaboration with Penny F, the house music tastemaker now brings us another blissed-out dance floor offering with “Learn To Fly.”
Written during the height of the pandemic and created initially as an instrumental, Yousef ended up tapping Rudimental vocalist and Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons‘ lead singer Afronaut Zu to provide his lyrical musings on the track with a heart-rending Caribbean tale. Listen below.
“This was a track I wrote deep in the despair of lockdown, during much personal difficulty, and all while simultaneously trying to help the UK events industry get beyond Covid,” says Yousef. “So it’s a really personal moment for me. I found Afronaut Zu after another shout-out to social media. His song and poignant lyrics perfectly capture the mood of those days, and the sentiment resonates deeply. And above all… the track goes off!! This release is as strong as anything I’ve done.”
