Playlist of the Week: Jimi Jules

Following the release of his new + (Plus) album on Innervisions, Switzerland’s renowned DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jimi Jules shares some of his favourite tracks with Beatport’s Playlist of the Week.

I’m grateful to be the guest of Beatports Playlist of the week. Two weeks ago, I released my album + (Plus) under the theme “Better Together Forever,” which kind of reflects one of the most important capabilities of music for me — connecting people. I’m always looking for fresh and exciting sounds, whether I am producing music in the studio or selecting tunes for my shows. The tracks in this playlist are a range of what I personally enjoy. Some of them I just listen to at home with a glass of red wine, and others are made to be played out in the club. Together, it’s a short trip through my musical universe, which I’m happy to share with you. Cheers!

Kalabrese – Fleischchäs (feat. Tillmann Ostendarp) [Rumpelmusig]

I love Kalabrese’s music, I could listen and play Kalabrese all day, so I had to choose at least one track out of their repertoire. The tune I have chosen is about his relationship with his mother. A lovely song made for washing the dishes or chilling cosy with your friends and family at home.

Bolis Pupul, Charlotte Adigéery – HAHA [DEEWEE]

When I heard “HAHA” for the first time, I was blown away by the creative Idea. So simple but so good, it is a true masterpiece in my opinion.

Inigo Montier – Magic [Lumière Noire Records]

A fresh producer with fresh ideas. This guy has a lot to offer. I’ve also played this banger during a lot in my sets.

Rhye – Black Rain (Âme Remix) [Secular Sabbath]

Âme inspired me a lot over the last 20 years. They helped me to connect with people and they are producing outstanding crossover music. This remix of the Rhye track “Black Rain” is probably the best mix I have heard from them so far, and yes, I have played it over and over again since last summer.

Andy Martin – Revolution feat. Lee Scratch Perry (Turmspringer Remix) [Mole Audio]

I love Dub music with all the deep sounds and delays but what I love even more is, when Mr. Lee Scratch Perry is doing what he does best. Talking about life. RIP.

Karo Grati – Manus in Mano (Skatman Reconstruction) [AZZUR]

Super nice remix of a young guy called Skatman. When I heard Trikk play this hypnotic arp tune in the middle of the jungle I had to ask him what it is. Since then, it hasn’t left my record bag.

Lanark Artefax – Touch Absence [Whities Records]

Deep banger with an outstanding sound design to change the whole vibe on the dance floor. I love the sound of the crispy drums, the iron-sounding apocalyptic bass, and the deep pads and vox. Wonderful tune.

Jürgen Paape – So Weit Wie Noch Nie [Kompakt]

If you play this record at the right moment, everyone will start to kiss each other. If you don’t believe me, try it!

Oriol Calvo, LMNL – Love Loud (Kevin Di Serna Remix) [Anims]

I played a lot of music by this Argentinian producer. I adore his way of combining pop music with straight mellow techno. With this remix, he made another stellar tune with a lot of acoustic guitars and sounds around the straight club beat.

Luca Duran – Telenovela [Akoya Circles]

Zurich’s finest, Luca Duran! I love this guy‘s music. Always dreamy, always simple with crispy drums, but always powerful with the right amount of deepness.

Jimi Jules’ new album + (Plus) is out now via Innervisions. Find it on Beatport.
