In the latest episode of International Music Summit’s digital discussion series, Australian duo NERVO chats with Doctor Anna Lembke to discuss mental health strategies for music industry workers.
Created in partnership with Beatport, Pioneer DJ, shesaid.so, and the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM), the IMS series The Big Questions invites artists and industry leaders from around the world to unpack the most significant issues facing the global dance music scene today.
Focusing on a new key topic each month, The Big Questions examines and deconstructs these subjects with the hopes of enabling its resilient international community to reconnect through debate and discussion.
Research has shown that people working in the music industry are more prone to mental health problems.
To address this, The Big Questions tapped Grammy Award-winning songwriters and DJ/producer duo NERVO, who sat down with Doctor Anna Lembke — Professor of Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine, Chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic, and author of Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence — to explore how we individually and collectively can support good mental health practices to help sustain a happy, healthy working life.
Adding their knowledge and analysis were Ari Peralta (Neuroscientist & founder of Arigami), Chloé Abrahams (Higher Ground, Agent & Mental Health First Aider), Rosana Corbacho (M.I. Therapy, Founder & Psychologist and AFEM Health working group co-chair) in a conversation moderated by DJ, Presenter, Okoro Radio co-founder and AFEM Diversity & Inclusion Working Group co-chair Kikelomo.

The fundamental objective of the series is to create a workable plan of action and roadmap to recovery, catalyzing debate and industry collaboration as we collectively find pathways to rebuild and develop the global electronic music industry sustainably.
For those who want to get involved, IMS invites fans to nominate who they would like to see in a future episode of The Big Questions. You can submit your suggestions through the International Music Summit socials or their website.
