Bou’s “Veteran VIP” is a Beatport Number 1

We catch up with Manchester-based producer Amine Bouguenna, AKA Bou, whose track “Veteran VIP” just hit Beatport’s overall top spot.

Congratulations on your first number one on Beatport’s overall charts! How did you celebrate the news?

Thank you, I’m super chuffed to finally hit number one on Beatport’s chart. It is such a great achievement for me. I did not get to celebrate yet. However, I will when I play at a socially distanced rave tonight.

The original of “Veteran” was already a big hit when it came out last year. Why did you decide to make a VIP (variation in production) version of the track? And what’s your own favourite version of the track?

I made the VIP to play at one of my sets as the original was already blowing up. I wanted to give everyone something new. I liked both tracks, I prefer the drums on the new VIP but the original has the first raw energy.

You’ve been teasing the VIP release for quite some time. Why did you decide to put it out now?

We struggled to get it out due to Souped Up being so busy with releases. But we got there finally, and I’m super happy with the outcome.

“Veteran” has to be a very special track for you — you made it back when you were still living at your mother’s house. How did the track come into being?

Trigga and I linked up, he gave me the vocals a while back and I ended up putting it on the tune. It ended up working really well and Trigga really liked the final. Fast forward a year or two and here we are.

You’ve working together with many different MCs. What made you collaborate with Trigga on this one?

Me and Trigga have always vibed together in the studio and on sets, both being from Manchester it was only natural to work with him.

This year you’ve been given not one but four Drum & Bass awards. You’re having the biggest success of your career while the whole club scene is on pause. How does this feel for you?

It is a strange feeling and I wish I was out doing my thing but I know everybody is in the same position as me. I’m just trying to keep myself busy in the studio and not think about it too much.

What releases do you have coming up?

I’m going to round this year off with Friction and Trigga and finish my year off with an EP in December. More news coming soon.
