Beatport ReConnect raised thousands for two coronavirus relief funds. But we couldn’t have done it without you.
On Friday, Beatport began its 34-hour livestream marathon, with 34 artists broadcasting from as many locations to more than 150 countries around the world. While we streamed, we asked you to donate to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, as well as the Association For Electronic Music’s COVID-19 Hardship Fund, which will assist struggling member companies retain their staff, and individual members most need of urgent financial help.
Today, we are thrilled to announce that you donated more than $180,000 for these crucial causes.
8.5 million of you tuned in to watch artists like Carl Cox, Bonobo, Pete Tong, Nina Kraviz, GRiZ, RÜFÜS DU SOL, A-Trak, Nicole Moudaber, Chris Liebing, ANNA, Axel Boman and Paul Oakenfold play live from their living rooms and studios. There were were many unforgettable moments, and sets we won’t soon forget, as well as prizes available for anyone who donated, kindly offered by some of the world’s foremost music technology companies.
Most importantly, we came together in a moment of crisis. We did so to celebrate our scene, to lose ourselves for a weekend, and when possible, offer financial assistance to those in need.
So once again, we’d like to say thank you.
If you’d still like to donate, you can do so by clicking here. And if you’d like to re-watch any of the streams, you can find them here, or watch a few below.
Here’s what Robb McDaniels, Beatport’s CEO, had to say. “We are deeply grateful for all the talented artists and their teams that made the ReConnect event possible, and equally impressed with the dedication and passion shown by the global electronic music community that tuned in for over 34 hours this past weekend to reconnect with their favorite DJs. The generosity of our entire community, including so many great industry partners that donated products to give away, is what resulted in a large donation to two non-profits that can ensure the health and stability of our world and our industry in the months to come.”
